StitchWorks: The Atelier Behind Your Most Cherished Garments
StitchWorks is an Australian-owned, Melbourne-based tailoring house dedicated to impeccable craftsmanship, sustainable practices and a personal connection with every piece we create or restore. With over a decade of experience and a loyal community, we craft garments that fit your body and your story.
More than a tailor – we preserve memories
Founded in 2008, StitchWorks began as a small alternative to mass fashion – a studio where every stitch, every cut, every repair was an act of intention. What started as a single sewing machine in a garage has grown into a renowned atelier with a team of sixteen artisans, all sharing a single philosophy: that clothing should be made to last, respect individuality, and never end up as landfill.
From made-to-measure suits for CEOs and grooms, to invisible repairs on beloved heirloom denim, we blend traditional hand skills with modern techniques, ensuring every garment leaves our studio with the perfect balance of strength and elegance.
A Timeline of Dedication
First Needle
Founder Sarah Mitchell opens a small alterations shop in an old Fitzroy cottage, focusing on repairs and alterations that gave clothes a second life.
Bespoke Department Launched
Expansion into full bespoke suiting, using only natural fabrics imported from UK and Italy. Within two years the waiting list reached over six weeks.
Heritage Repair Studio
Dedicated repair atelier opened in the CBD, specialising in invisible mending, sashiko denim repair and leather restoration – saving thousands of garments from landfill.
Sustainable Recognition
StitchWorks receives the “Circular Fashion Leader” award from Sustainable Melbourne for our innovative repair-first approach and zero-waste production studio.
